Video will not play in Canvas at all? Start with the playback fixes.
Installation and permissions
- Install from the Chrome Web Store through the installation options, then pin the extension to the toolbar.
- If the extension asks for permission to read the page, allow it; it cannot see a video without it.
- After installing, reload the Canvas tab you already had open.
Video not detected
- Start playing the video first; the extension detects what the player requests.
- Reload the page, press play, and open the extension again.
- Update the extension to the latest version.
- Identify the player (Studio, Kaltura, Panopto, direct file) and check whether this player is supported.
Download interrupted or stalled
- Stay signed in to Canvas and keep the tab open; an expired session stops the transfer.
- Replay the video for a moment, then start the download again so a fresh link is used.
- Check that you have free disk space for the file.
Saved file has no audio or will not play
- Some sources keep picture and sound in separate files. Try another entry for the same lecture on the page.
- Open the file in VLC to rule out a codec problem in your player.
- Compare the duration with the lecture in Canvas. See verify the saved file.
Unavailable or unsupported recordings
Recordings protected by DRM, restricted by the source, or that your account cannot watch cannot be downloaded. Ask the uploader to enable downloads, or contact your institution’s support office. The guide explains what to do when there is no download button.
Contact support
Use the support form. Include the extension version, your operating system and browser, which player the video uses, and the error message shown. Do not send passwords, cookies, signed media addresses or private course links.
